maintain child windows while leaving page

Can we keep child windows opened while switching to other URL when window.showModelessDialog is used for opening child windows?

Any other alternative similar to this?

We are openint child windows using window.showmodallessdialo(

I need this behavior with window.showmodellessdialog as window.open creates new IE instance which is not expected here.....
