Hello,

I have a page that loads a two different files that the user uploaded during page_load. The code is an example I used from the aspsnippets site. The files are stored in a server folder while the location is saved in the database. The code below gets all files in the folder and binds them to a gridview.

Dim filePaths() As String = Directory.GetFiles(Server.MapPath("~/Uploads/2012/emp/"))
            Dim files As List(Of ListItem) = New List(Of ListItem)
            For Each filePath2 As String In filePaths
                files.Add(New ListItem(Path.GetFileName(filePath), filePath))
            Next
            gvEmp.DataSource = files
            gvEmp.DataBind()

What I want to do is to get only one file per user as the fileID along with the location is saved in for every user. I ran a query to get the fileLocation and pass that location stored in the database instead of the current server path but I can't figure out how I would do it. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Store Logged In UserId in the Files Table and then query based on the UserId so it will only show files for that User

I have already saved the userID and can filter if there is a file for the user but the code loads all the files in the folder as it is currently set to find all the files in the path (~/Uploads/2012/emp/). I need to load the exact file (~/Uploads/2012/emp-letter/file1.jpg) for that user. The location is stored in the database.

OK so for that you should save file with UserId appended.

Example if FileName is myFile.txt Save it as myFile_1023.txt where 1023 is the UserId

For that file saving you will need to do

FileUpload1.PostedFile.SaveAs(Server.MapPath("~/Uploads/") + Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName) + "_" + 1023 + Path.GetExtension(FileUpload1.PostedFile.FileName));

Now to get Files for specific User i.e. 1023

string[] filePaths = Directory.GetFiles(Server.MapPath("~/Uploads/"), ""*1023*".*);

I decided to store the location in the database and get the file from the address stored in the database. I tried using your code but unfortunately I think I am doing it wrong as it is not returning any result, here is what I did:

Dim applicationID As Integer = 1 'Get from a session
Dim userID as Integer = 3 'Get from a session
Dim UploadFolder As String = Request.PhysicalApplicationPath + "Uploads\2012\emp-contract\"
Dim Ext As String = System.IO.Path.GetExtension(fileUp.PostedFile.FileName)
Dim FileName As String = userID + "-" + applicationID.ToString + "-" + uploadDate + "-doc" + Ext 'Rename the file to a standard format with the date

fileUp.SaveAs(UploadFolder + FileName)

 Dim filePaths() As String = Directory.GetFiles(Server.MapPath("~/Uploads/2012/docs/"), "" * applicationID * ".*")
	Dim files As List(Of ListItem) = New List(Of ListItem)
	For Each filePath As String In filePaths
		files.Add(New ListItem(Path.GetFileName(filePath), filePath))
	Next

It seems to be not applying the filter as like before, all the files are displayed.

I think the following

"" * applicationID * ".*"

should be

& "*" & applicationID & "* .*"
